Along Tenerife’s north coast, nature has sculpted stunning natural pools, known as charcos, formed from ancient lava flows and shaped by the force of the sea. Filled at high tide and calmer when the water retreats, they offer a unique and refreshing way to swim close to the ocean—with caution.

Highlights include :

  • Punta del Hidalgo and Bajamar: easily accessible and family-friendly.

  • Charco de la Laja (San Juan de la Rambla): striking turquoise waters.

  • Charco del Viento (La Guancha): several pools in a wild coastal setting.

  • El Caletón (Garachico): scenic and volcanic, right in the heart of the village. (15 minutes by car from the guesthouse Un Jardin al Mar).

  • Charcos of Los Silos: quieter, more hidden gems between cliffs and banana fields.

Tips: wear sturdy water shoes, swim only at low tide, and always respect the power of the Atlantic.

These charcos are more than swimming spots—they’re magical places, shaped by nature, where you can feel the soul of the island.
