The "Corona forestal" (or forest crown) is the largest protected natural area in the Canaries. It forms a belt of forests around the Teide National Park, between 1,000 and 2,000 meters above sea level, covering a large part of the center of the island.

There are mainly forests of Canary pine, an endemic species remarkably adapted to drought and fire. Despite this, this area remains vulnerable to fires in the summer, hence the importance of prevention campaigns and compliance with forest rules.

Trails and preserved nature
Many marked paths allow you to discover the Corona Forestal on foot, by bike or on horseback.
• The Sendero de Arenas Negras (La Montañeta, above Garachico), crossing a beautiful pine forest on volcanic flows.
• The trails starting from San José de los Llanos, towards the Chinyero volcano.
• The trails above La Guancha (Ruta del agua, or from Casa de la Pradera to El Lagar)

Picnic and relaxation areas
Several "recreative zones" (areas equipped with tables, barbecues, toilets...) allow you to take a break in the heart of nature, such as San José de los Llanos, Arenas negras, El Lagar, Las Lajas, La Caldera or Chanajiga. These are very popular places on weekends for local families.
