The trees of Tenerife, diversity and majesty
Updated: Aug 15
Tenerife is an island that stands out as much for the richness of its landscapes as for the variety of its trees, between endemic species, generous fruit trees and spectacular blooms.

The dragon tree, a living symbol of the Canaries
The dragon tree (called drago here) is probably the most emblematic tree of Tenerife. With its sculptural trunk and red resin nicknamed "dragon’s blood", it has fascinated for centuries. Very close to my guest rooms Un Jardin al Mar, the most famous, the millennial dragon tree of Icod de los Vinos, 18 meters high, is a must: imposing and mysterious, it would be over 800 years old!
You can admire it by visiting for example the "Parque del Drago milenario" or from the terrace of the restaurant "Casa del Drago" .

Forest trees
Another giant of the landscape, the Canary pine reigns over the high-altitude forests. Fire-resistant thanks to its thick bark and ability to grow back after fires, it is also a valuable source of shade and freshness.
In the wettest forests of the north, such as the region of Anaga, one enters the kingdom of the laurisilva, this prehistoric vegetation of subtropical type, where dominates the laurels, the tree ferns, the yews and the viñátigos. These forests enveloped in mist evoke another time.
Among the introduced species, the eucalyptus has become well acclimated to certain areas of the island, with its silvery foliage and distinctive smell.
Fruit-trees

As for orchards, Tenerife is a real fruit garden: avocados, almonds, mangoes, medlar trees, lemon trees and orange trees offer an abundance of fragrant fruits almost all year round, not to mention the presence of vines. In some areas, you can also come across papaya or guava trees.
Ornamental trees
They paint villages and roads with bright colors in spring and summer, such as the flamboyant red, with its spectacular flowering, or the jacaranda, which covers the sidewalks with captivating mauve flowers.

Trees that feed, amaze and tell in their own way the history and diversity of Tenerife.
🌿 Staying in the heart of a preserved natural environment
The richness of Tenerife’s vegetation can be discovered through hikes and walks. Staying in the north of the island allows easy access to pine forests, mountain trails and volcanic landscapes.
Our guest rooms Un Jardin al Mar are an ideal starting point
for nature lovers in search of tranquility.
